Day 9, September 10, 2025

Victor, Idaho

First landing at Coal Creek

Last night we ate at a local restaurant called the Knotty Pine. We all had great meals, especially the trout! While there, we made a plan for today. We decided to do some hiking in the Targhee National Forest in Teton County. It is adjacent to the Grand Tetons National Park.

Our campground also has 96 cabins. They offer free breakfast so we checked that out. Our morning hike was at Moose Creek area and we chose a challenging hike called Coal Creek. It ended up being 1400 feet ascent in elevation. It was a good trail for our heart and lungs but only a couple of openings.

Dave loved it! (Not)
Not a great pic, but one of the few openings
Big pine that had recently been cut down

We were close enough to go back to the campground for a break and a light lunch. Dave did some work while Bill, Deb and I did a 2nd hike. We entered the Mike Harris campground. (For you folks from Panora, yes, that is right. I sent a text to Mike Harris Jr. to let him know where we were. He said there is another campground with the same name in Washington State.).

We chose a combo of two trails: the Nemo and the Grumpy Loop.

This trail was conducive for the off road bicycles. We saw many riders and gave them way. It was general slopes and wound back and forth, up and down.

Dense forest with primarily pine and aspen

I would recommend this trail to anyone that likes to get out in nature. it had the best signage I’ve ever seen on a trail.

This was like a round about on the trail, you could choose which direction (trail) you wanted to continue on.

This gives an idea of our meandering on the trail. We covered 6.5 miles

After our big day, we decided to try one of the local breweries: Guidepost Brewery.

Later, we fixed dinner at our campsite and enjoyed being this beautiful area.
