Day 7; Monday, September 8, 2025

Today is our last full day at Yellowstone. It is truly a beautiful and amazing place. Today we chose an area that we haven’t heard much about and had not checked out yet. Mammoth Falls. On the way, we watched the bison again and here they are roaming.

We chose a 5 mile moderately strenuous trail that offered lots of different scenery.

Beautiful day, first day with no haze

This section (pic below) of the road is called Golden Gate, it was the most expensive area to build a road through the terrain. They started with a wooden road and bridge that lasted about 10 years.

We were almost to our trail when we saw this black bear sow and her cubs. So awesome to watch them eat and walk along.

When we arrive to Mammoth Falls, we find a beautiful area with housing for people that work there as well a hotel and cabins. We went to ask for information about the tour options and and saw this guy just grazing in some grass.

we began the hike and here is an early view.

The hike continued, with phenomenal scenery, and a fabulous day

Beautiful
One of the ponds we saw during hike
An elk we saw during the hike
Interesting maneuvers to go around…

About this time, Dave was getting tired of hiking, we tried stopping for a snack to give him a but ultimately he knew we were over half way so might as well just finish. 😊

Made it!
Had to get a picture of the entrance sign. Loved every section of this amazing park.

Summary thoughts of this leg of our trip:

We’ve traveled a little over 1700 miles since our trip began, 43 hours in the truck. We covered an average of 85-100 miles every day in the park. We walked/hiked from 6-12 miles every day. We ate out once, preferring to make our own meals and relax in the evenings and avoiding the crowds at restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our campground. Perfect weather for sightseeing or hanging out. We feel very fortunate for all the wildlife and beautiful countryside we’ve seen so far! It is an amazing part of our country.
